Our Lady Immaculate
Canon P began the Allelulia and made his way to the lectern.
“The first reading is from the book of Kings…. No it isn’t. Wrong year.”
There was a pause as he flipped through pages, moved ribbons about, and finally settled on a page.
“It’s from Matthew chapter 5… Does that sound about right?”
He peered over his glasses towards the back row.
“Yes.”
Every congregation must have a Jennifer. A daily attendee of Mass. Loud and kind in her years. Friendly and perhaps tone-deaf when it comes to hymns. But an example to us all, and an expert. Able to check a priest’s workings out quietly and accurately.
It was a lovely little moment.
Perhaps every church benefits from a parisioner like Jennifer?
