Mass 42. Sunday 30 November 2025

The first Sunday of Advent

I was distracted during Mass today because I’d won the Christmas quiz.

Our Parish secretary had come to find me before Mass, smiling, telling me that I’d won first prize.

I was delighted. Even though the laughs and comments from well wishers suggested nobody else had considered entering, or that it was usually left to the parish children.

Nevertheless, I’d spent three days on those blasted anagrams. Twenty of them in all. A list of Christmas songs and carols all muddled up. Everything from Away in a Manger to We Three Kings. Then a few multiple choice questions about Advent.

It was impossible to concentrate on anything but my jubilation. The prayers, readings and psalms flew by. It was only when we reached Cannon P’s homily that I felt I was able to follow things.

Well worth the pound to enter.
