Sunday 21 September 2025
Our Lady Immaculate
It was a ragtag mass this morning, the after effects of the wine and wisdom quiz the night before perhaps. Including the surprise of learning, in round six, that snails can sleep for three years.
There were a few glitches.
The mass readings noted in the newsletter were for the 21st Sunday in ordinary time and not the 25th week as they should have been. Canon P spoke the Mass, rather than singing as usual (not a mistake, just his choice). “And if you’re wondering what the significance of the candles remaining unlit at the back of the church is… I forgot.”

Which lent a slight informality to things, but a joyous one, which was appropriate for Evangelii Gaudium Sunday. Which in its literal translation reminds us faith isn’t supposed to be bottled up and stored, but shared. Starting with us.
“Be joyful as you leave through the front door of the church. If you can’t be joyful as you leave, you can fake it. And if you can’t fake it, go out the back door.”
We all laughed and edged towards the front door.
