First Friday in Lent, 20 February 2026
I like these early 7am lenten masses. Even if I don’t feel that way getting up at 6.40am.
Last year Lent had particular meaning. I was still in RCIA and fast approaching Easter, when I would be received into the church. Perhaps it was more significant to me looking back. But I remember wanting to make an effort, and that meant the early 7am Mass on a Friday.
The sky was pink and blue on my walk to church at 6.50am. There were six of us for the service, all we all kept our coats on.
Some 25 minutes later on the way home the sky had become totally grey. No sign of the blue of earlier. But I still like these early Lenten masses. A lot can change in 25 minutes.
